That'll teach me

Miss Little Baby is throwing her (15 lb.) weight around:

Today a contractor came to bid on a repair we need to have done. We do not *want* to have it done ... just needs to be fixed. Anyway, the entire time I was attempting to talk with him about the details of the project Emmeline was loud and complain-y. Not crying. Just loudly repeating one noise, pausing to take breaths then starting again.

I carried her. I tried to set her in her high chair with some Cheerios. I tried putting her in her jump up. I offered her water. I checked her diaper. Literally, her vocalizations were so loud they hurt my ears. Contractor kept looking at me like I should be able to quiet her. I couldn't.

Contractor was patient up to a point, then said he would email the quote. There were questions I wanted to ask that didn't get answered.

After he closed the door and left Emmeline was perfectly quiet. I said, "Emmeline, I actually needed to talk to him!" She smiled, looked me in the eye and said, "HEH!"

She was a cheerful bird from the minute he left. What I HOPE is she is having "man phobia" which my oldest daughter also had as a baby -- any man besides Daddy was scary. That makes sense, right? She's not showing signs of manipulative powers beyond her age, right?

RIGHT?

Bumpy times with the Bumpo

My good friend Kim, who moved to Alaska last year and who I really miss, gave me her daughter's Bumpo before they left. She raved about it, sure my baby would love the Bumpo as her daughter did.

All I can tell you is Emmeline is not a fan of the Bumpo! She will tolerate it for about 60 seconds, then straightens her body like a ruler and wants out. Oh well. At least it's an adequate baby holder for a quick picture.

Here I am again. I really don't like this much!

Oh my mommy is so silly, maybe I'll sit here for a quick second.

Wow, you should get a look at the funny faces my mommy can make!

She is making me smile!

Mommy, time's up!

New York, New York

We just returned from NYC, and it was great! What an incredible place! Of course we encountered blurps we did not forsee -- like losing Emmeline's sling on the first leg of the trip. Ultimately we carried her everywhere and she was as happy as could be. See? Sleeping in momma's arms, and living the high life in the apartment we rented.

Our older children were such troopers on this trip; we are so proud of them! We took in Ellis Island, the Liberty Science Center (which was spectacular), the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum and Natural History, Shrek the Musical and The Lion King. Needless to say we were exhausted on our trip back ... which took almost nine hours start to finish.

We are caught up on laundry finally, and are back to our regular routine. Emmeline seems to have grown by leaps and bounds since before we left -- she is really engaging and giggly. We are trying to treasure her babyness as it disappears before our very eyes!
